Man City thrash Chelsea 6-0

Chelsea recorded their heaviest ever defeat in the Premier League as they succumbed to a 6-0 loss at the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. It only took 25 minutes for City to match that goal haul against Chelsea on Sunday, with the west Londoners imploding yet again this season.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring after just four minutes and then Sergio Aguero doubled the lead with a ferocious long range effort, having earlier missed from impossibly close range. The Argentine added a second a few minutes later after a poor back header from Ross Barkley, and then Ilkay Gundogan curled in a fourth. It marked the first time since Roman Abramovich bought the club that Chelsea have conceded four first-half goals, and the first time since 1999 when they were beaten 4-1 by Sunderland. Twenty years ago, it was Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips who did the damage, both grabbing braces in a furious 38-minute opening period. Things did not improve in the second half, with Aguero grabbing his hat-trick from the penalty spot before Sterling - who started the scoring - netted City’s sixth. The result is Chelsea’s biggest defeat since they were beaten 7-0 by Nottingham Forest in 1991 and sees the Blues slip to sixth in the Premier League table after their goal difference took a hammering at the Etihad.
