Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Singrijan organised a one-day retreat on March 9 at Niathu Resort under the theme, “Rediscovering One’s Calling”.

A press release by the school stated that Oriental Theological Seminary, professor Alongla P Aier and C-Edge College principal, Dr Chubatola Aier were the resource persons for the retreat.

Speaking on the theme, Alongla said that teaching had enormous power and influence on young minds and encouraged teachers to strive for personal development.

“Paying attention to ourselves and how we are developing as a person is the number one step if we want to become a good teacher , if we want to impact lives, if we want to influence people”, said Alongla.

She said teachers have the power to change lives and one little word of love and one little act of affirmation could make all the difference.

“Every young mind under the care of a teacher is waiting to be discovered and transformed. So we should constantly work towards becoming a better human being, a better teacher,” said Alongla.

In the second session, Dr. Chubatola Aier, began her message based on Ephesians 4:1, which reads “I urge you to live your life worthy of your calling”.

She said everyone has been given an assignment and to attain the full measure of what one does as teacher one must understand the differences between a job, a vocation and a calling.

“Only when we as teachers have a full understanding of these three words, we can find the fullness of life,’ said Dr Chubatola. She laid strong emphasis on the group and individual abiding by clear professional ethics and code of conducts.

The program was chaired by GHSS Singrijan, principal, P. Aienla Longkumer. Ice breaking sessions like games and activities for the teachers was also conducted.
