Bhandari inter-departmental sports held

The first Bhandari Sub-Division Inter-Departmental Sports Meet in support of Beti Bachao Beti Badhao concluded on February 9 at the public ground, Bhandari. Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Wokha graced the closing ceremony as the special guest.

Speaking at the programme, the special guest lauded the departments headed by the civil administration, Bhandari for their efforts in implementing Beti Bachao Beti Badhao programme in the sub-divisional level.  

While calling upon the nodal departments to give special attention so that no child remains malnourished, he stated that healthy children make healthy community.

He also stated that it is a matter of pride and encouragement that Wokha district is selected as one among 25 best BBBB programme implementing districts in the country.

The old perception and mind set of the people that girls can’t be at par with boys in achieving goals and realising their potentials through their abilities should change and equal opportunities should be given to the girls without discrimination, he said.

Education, being the most powerful tool for empowering the girl child, the district administration is willing to support girls who are willing and ready to study in government schools and become self reliant and resourceful in the future, Samoon added.

Expressing concern for under-age pregnancy in the society, he called for all concerned to create awareness and address the issue for all round safety of the girls.

7 NAP Bhandari emerged as the winner of both men’s football and women’s volleyball while Social welfare Department was the winner of the women’s tug of war. 

Special guest Dr. Manazir Jeelani gave away the prizes to the winning teams.

Altogether 21 departments participated in the three-day sporting meet.
